I've been working on catching up on the word count, but I'm not stressed about it. In researching "Oklahoma Land Run", I discovered there were five or so "land runs" in Oklahoma. This opened up a lot of possibilities for the story. At this time, I'm focusing on the Land Run of 1893 and the Woodward, OK area in particular. In studying the Beaver County History book, I think the family will find their final home in the Clearlake area where Terry grew up. (not sure)
I was also reminded of a tragic story from my family history that took place on the Colorado line. Of course it will be changed up because all I actually know about that is the outcome and not the before and after. I put in a lot of imagination and don't try to guess what my ancestors said at these events. Some wonder if my characters are actual people...yes and no...In some cases, they look like people I know, yet act nothing like them. I combine a lot of personality traits to make one character so that they don't tend to be very ordinary. Although, in my mind, the people of that era did have outstanding courage and grit.
I was watching a new show about families who left everything to live 'off the grid'. They may have the gumption of ancestors past. I know I don't really want to 'rough it' longer than one or two weeks at a time...an then...with good camping gear.
I'll keep you posted. God be with you.
