In my enthusiasm to get to the storyline I wrote that Kathy went on a short weekend trip and forgot to write that either Kathy took the doggie with her or that she arranged for the doggie to be taken care of.
My editor is from a metropolitan area and she thinks that every dog is an indoor dog. (Now, before you stone me, the people who live on acreages and who have dogs outside, do take care of the dogs in weather of either extreme. Some have heated doghouses or bring them inside.) She was worried about all the hours Kathy worked long hours driving an oil truck and that it would be hard on the dog to have to hold its bodily functions that long. I told her that Kathy lived on a ranch and the dog was an outdoor dog. The editor had never thought of that.
Now, I do need to care about this 'pretend' dog because people who love their pets will notice. We do love animals, but we don't have pets anymore. So...part of my edits will be taking care of Samson. He's a really good pretend doggie. (I'm really glad she caught that mistake because I know it matters.)
Here's the new cover:
